OUR WORK WITH OTHER ORGANISATIONS

 

 

With very limited resources (little money/no paid staff) we are making great and increasing efforts to liase with other organisations and enter into partnerships where possible. Examples of this are: -

  • running a module (Values and Anti-oppressive Practice) for Nottingham University’s MA in Social Studies - 1996 to 2003
  • funded by Nottingham Community Chest to organise 2 ground-breaking conferences on LGB issues in Black and Minority Ethnic Communities
  • membership of the Nottingham LGBT Consultation Group
  • working with Nottingham Education Authority and School's Out on the "Tackling Homophobia in Schools" conference
  • involvement with Central Division Police in the “Operation Shield” initiative on homophobic crime
  • assisting Nottinghamshire Police with their Impact Assessments
  • working with members of the Pride Committee, North Notts LGB Development Group, the Police Outnetwork and several others to obtain a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a three-year local LGBT History Project
  • producting QB, a local lesbian/gay free newssheet, which is distributed on the scene and also to Broadway Cinema, the Health Shop, the Women's Centre, Nottingham Voluntary Action Centre, Nottinghamshire Libraries and to several local LGBT social groups
  • promoting “safer sex” and AIDS/HIV awareness under the auspices of Rushcliffe PCT
  • working with "Proud Heritage" to further recognition and development of LGBT history. 
  • organising events for LGBT History Month 2006 and 2007 in conjunction with UNISON, Broadway Cinema, Breakout, Nottingham City and County Councils and in 2008 in conjunction with Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage
  • working with Nottingham Children's Services, the GAi Project and Outburst LGBT Youth Group to assemble an anti-homophobic bullying pack which was sent to all Nottingham Schools, Colleges and Youth Groups
  • providing training for Trent University’s Nightline, for Nottingham Social Services and Rushcliffe CVS
  • participating in the HIV & AIDS mapping process with the Partnership Development Team
  • working in association with the GAI project to establish “Breakout”, a social group for gay men in Nottingham and at their World AIDs Day displays
  • involvement in consultation meetings with the City and County Council
  • involvement in the North Notts LGB Development Group - including helping produce a directory of local LGBT services and providing training on LGB law issues
  • Providing presentations on changes in the law for Breakout and for the Nottingham University LGBT Society 
  • represented on the Nottinghamshire Police LGBT Consultation Group since Feb. 1999
  • represented on the City Council LGBT Forum
  • represented on the City LGBT Youth Steering Group
  • represented on the Nottingham Community and Equality Forum
  • participating in Pink Lace/Pride, Nottingham’s own Lesbian and Gay Festivals
  • organising training sessions for Victim Support, New College Nottingham, Ashfield Homes, Notts Police and Portland College
  • assisting Law Students at Trent University with work on discrimination
  • assisting Media Studies students at Trent University with LGBT related projects
  • providing displays at Nottingham CVS, Central Library, Age Concern, Broadway Cinema, Nottingham Council House, County Hall, Mansfield CVS, Police HQ Sherwood Lodge, Castle College, the Real Lives, Real People conference (Worksop), The View from the Top, The Holocaust Centre, The Environment Agency's Diversity Day etc
