A major exhibition of LGBT History for Nottingham

Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage heard in January that its grant application has been approved by the Heritage Lottery fund. Various local events were scheduled for February 2008's LGBT History Month. The highlight was an exhibition in the large gallery at View from the Top, which is above Waterstones - the 4th floor. The exhibition ran from Tuesday February 12th to Sunday February 17th.   You can contact Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage at NottsRH@hotmail.co.uk  Details about the exhibition and the other events which were organised for LGBT History Month are available by clicking on

www.nlgshistory.ik.com

CAN YOU HELP?

We are two academics at the University of Nottingham who are conducting a study on the politics of desire, examining the interaction between sexuality and ethnicity.

We would like to invite men (aged 16 or older) of South Asian or East Asian origin residing in Britain, who are attracted to and/or have sexual contact with men. This study requires participants to complete ananonymised questionnaire, which is available online, and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Hard copies of the questionnaire (and prepaid envelopes) could also be sent to those who wish to disseminate them. This study has been granted ethical approval by the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations Ethics Committee, at The University of Nottingham.

The questionnaire can be found at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspxsm=VYMNlHGKKBTNmDRxI_2bsGKw_3d_3d

Should you have any questions re this study, please do not hesitate to contact
Dr Roshan das Nair on 0115-8468314 (roshan.nair@nottingham.ac.uk) or
Dr Shirley Thomas on 0115-8466670 (shirley.thomas@nottingham.ac.uk).

Your sexual health is important.  Nottinghamshire Police would like to remind you that not everyone is careful when having sex with someone else.  There have been reports of people who are carrying infections deliberately having unprotected sex with others to infect them. Please always use protection - make sure that condoms are used.

For further advice on sexual health visit the Healthy Gay Nottingham (formerly the GAi Project) Website at www.healthygaynottingham.org.uk

Switchboard has developed an award-winning History Project. To have a look at this, click on www.nlgshistory.ik.com where you will also find information about another LGBT History project - Nottinghamshire's Rainbow Heritage, which a group of local people have started with the aid of Heritage Lottery funding.

Switchboard will be starting a training programme for new volunteers soon - if you might be interested, read the Volunteering section,  then send us

an e-mail at notts@lgswitchboard.fsnet.co.uk

Switchboard also produces the bi-monthly free newsletter QB.  You can pick up copies of QB on the scene and also at Broadway Cinema, the Health Shop, the Women's Centre, 7 Mansfield Road and at the main libraries. You can also see most of it online at the History Project website given above.  If you can't pick up QB, we can arrange to post it to you for an amazingly reasonable price.
