WANTING TO TALK ABOUT YOUR SEXUALITY
- whatever your age, whether in a relationship or not, it can be difficult to talk to friends, family or partners about your feelings.
VISITING THE AREA, OR UNFAMILIAR WITH WHAT'S ON LOCALLY
- we can give you information on local pubs, clubs, discos, events, groups and publications to help you feel at home. We have information about special facilities/groups for married people/bisexuals, for women only, for young people, for transvestites and the transgendered, for those interested in a range of things such as outdoor activities, sports, religious groups, saunas, university groups and other specialist groups.
WANTING TO TALK ABOUT SEX AND SEXUAL HEALTH
- you may have questions about safer sex, HIV/AIDS or other concerns. We will try to answer these in an informal and non-judgmental way and/or put you in touch with specialist health services.
WANTING OR OFFERING ACCOMMODATION
- we provide details of house and flat shares offered by lesbians, gay men and bisexuals, and can refer you to appropriate housing organisations. We have details of hotels and guest houses sympathetic to lesbians and gay men.
NEEDING LEGAL ADVICE
- we are familiar with the way the law affects lesbians, gay men and bisexuals (e.g. child custody cases; wills; harassment; homophobic crime). We can put you in touch with suitable solicitors or other agencies who can help you with these issues. We have effective contacts with Nottinghamshire Police.
JUST WANTING TO TALK
- you don’t have to be lesbian, gay or bisexual yourself - you could be a parent enquiring about your child or calling on behalf of a friend. That’s fine - we’re here to listen.
WANTING INFORMATION FOR YOUR ORGANISATION OR VOLUNTARY GROUP
- we can provide printed leaflets, background materials, reading lists and – given reasonable notice – speakers and training on our work and on issues such as sexuality, discrimination, LGB awareness, how the law affects LGB people etc.
Our History Project has also developed many resources which can be useful for displays, exhibitions and in training. Some of these resources are available for loan and some for purchase. Click on www.nlgshistory.ik.com to see the History Project's website.
